Digital Photography - Reading Responce

Reading Response: After Photography by Fred Ritchin
Chapter: 6

A great way to start a conversation is by telling a story. And what more impactful way of telling a story then threw a set of photographs also called a photo essay. Photo essay makes it possible to absorb large amounts of information promptly. The classic saying a picture is worth a thousand words. If there were hundreds of photos then it would be like reading a whole book.

A great example of a photo essay is a piece called The Whale Hunt by the artist Jonathan Harris. The whale hunt is a storytelling experiment that documents a transitional whale hunt of the Inupiat Eskimos in Alaska. He took a ‘photographic heartbeat’ of 3,214 images, that matched the pace his heartbeat while documenting the hunt so there are more images of the actual hunt and even more of the blood and guts of the whale.
