Digital Photography - Reading Responce

Reading Response: After Photography by Fred Ritchin
Chapter: 9

For Chapter 9 I wanted to focus on Steve Mann and his development of cyborg technology and uses it almost as a kind of art. Steve Mann has an idea to rid the world of absolutism and break free from the world. His thesis is twofold. The individual is unprotected and has lost ground to meddling technology. Global organizations have undermined the humanistic property of that set individual. Bound to freedom by an artistically outside source is a way for this individual to be collegially assertive and in turn be free.

Another artist dealing with cyborgs is Stelarc. Stelarc created a six-legged exoskeleton that can be mounted. The arms control the body’s movement and the fingers control its gestures. He has the same theories and Mann does and share similar ideals.

Wearable computing is a great topic for research. The areas of experimentations include pattern recognition, interface design, and augmented reality. These wearables can also be used as a type of electronic textile and even for fashion design. The use of wearables has grown so big it is even used for specific applications like physical handicaps or disabilities.
