Digital Photography - Reading Responce
Reading Response: After Photography by Fred Ritchin
Chapter: 8
This chapter also focuses on artificiality. They show second life as a means of having an alternate reality. Second Life is an online game where users can socialize, connect and create with one another. Even companies are in disguise and are going in games dressed as regular ‘avatars’ or people. I feel if you have to pay $10 a month for a game it is totally not worth it. Second life is a waste because this reality is fancy enough. If you need to escape your reality, buy some DVDs, some liquor, or some smokes. It’s better than watching your avatar dance in a virtual club. Instead you could be out there wasting your money on something cool like subscribing to WWF and save some cute little Pandas.
Chapter 8 also focuses on artificial intelligence, and how we are becoming overly dependent on automation. A great example of A.I. is a computer named Watson. Watson was built by IBM as a deep Q & A machine to compete on Jeopardy. Watson represents a leap forward in data analytics and how this technology will impact business and industry.
